Water Conservation – Is It Still Important in The Central Valley?

Simple tips for improving energy efficiency at your rental property

Before winter 2016, California was in a drought that lasted for 6 years but once last winter ended the entire state had officially caught back up to pre-drought levels so the big question many people have is if water conservation is still important. The answer to this question is yes.

Water conservation should be something that every resident of California practices, regardless if there’s a drought or not and you can help your tenants to conserve water by following these tips.

Water Conservation Tips

In the bathroom – Recommend that your tenants turn the water off when they are brushing their teeth and take shorter showers each day

Working in the kitchen – Use less water when boiling vegetables.

Doing laundry – Wash clothes using cold water.

Washing vehicles – Ask your tenants to fill up a bucket of water to wash their vehicles or to get their cars or trucks washed at a local car wash.

Report leaks – Ask your tenants to report leaks at your Central Valley rental property as soon as possible.

What You Can Do to Conserve Water

If you haven’t installed the latest water conservation upgrades at your rental property here’s what you can do to help your Central Valley Tenants save water.

Install low flower shower heads or faucet aerators.

Use low flow toilets.

Purchase energy efficient appliances like dishwashers and washing machines.

Little Efforts Pay Off Big

Although water conservation in California may seem like an inconvenience to some people, it’s paying off big time, especially among rental properties where many owners have reported that thanks to their efforts they were able to cut their water usage up to 20 percent or more each month.
