Tips For Preparing Your Rental Property For Fire Season 2021
Fire season in California arrives earlier every year, and if you’re like most landlords in California, you ware wary of this time of year because you know properties can catch fire in minutes.
Thankfully, even though we’re in the midst of another fire season, it’s easier than ever before for landlords to prepare for fire by following these simple tips.
Tip #1 – Remove Vegetation From The Rental Property
Let’s face it, one of the easiest ways for a house to catch fire is the vegetation that is growing on to the home, or is within close proximity to it.
The easiest way to protect a house during fire season is to remove vegetation at least thirty feet from the home itself.
Doing this will create a barrier that will give fire fighters a short window of opportunity to save the property should fire hit the area where the property is located.
Tip #2 – Remove Flammable Patio Furniture From The Exterior Of The Home
If a rental property has a patio, or outdoor space, it’s not uncommon for tenants to want to have patio furniture but what they don’t know is that most patio furniture is highly flammable.
This is why patio furniture should be removed from close proximity so that fire doesn’t have potential ‘fuel’ that will lead to the house catching fire as well.
Tip #3 – Remove Trash From The Property
Last of all, but most important, another way to protect a rental property from catching fire is to remove trash from the property.
This is an important tip because of the simple fact that trash like most patio furniture, trash left to accumulate at the property can also become fuel for another fire that could lead to the house catching fire.
Ultimately, losing a home during fire season is preventable if a landlord and their tenant take these steps to protect the rental property during fire season.
Even though protecting the property is important, landlords should also focus on protecting their tenants as well by making sure that everyone who lives in the property is aware of how to safely exit the property should fire occur.
