Tip #1 – Check Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detector Batteries
Since most batteries typically only last for 6 months, you should check and replace the batteries in your smoke / carbon monoxide detectors at your Central Valley Rental property.

Grill/Patio-Because of grease and hot coals, it is common for the grill to accidentally start on fire. If a person is not careful, they can also start the house or deck on fire.

Fireplace/Wood-Burning Stove–Home heating is typically the second highest cause of home fires. Even though most heating-related fires are in the wood stove or furnace, chimney fires are also very common.

Utility Room-Because of the concentrations of appliances (e.g. hot water heater and furnace) and electrical panels, locating a fire extinguisher here is wise.

Each Occupied Bedroom–Fire extinguishers in bedrooms can be a tremendously helpful tool to aide occupants in escaping from a fire.
Tip #3 – Purchase a First Aid Kit for Your Rental Property
Last of all, but most important, you should purchase a first aid kit for your rental property because a first aid kit is very affordable and can easily save a life if the contents of the first aid kit are used properly
Besides following the tips mentioned in this article you should also use this time of year to reconnect with your tenants on a personal level and verify that their renter’s insurance policies are still active since some tenants may cancel their policies once you start renting to them.
